Copper replacement experiment for tomatoes
Besides vineyards, we also carried out the copper replacement experiment of the RELACS project (Replacement of Contentious Inputs in Organic Farming Systems) in tomato growing sites. The plant protection trial took place in the greenhouses of Áron Pethő’s organic farm (located in Szigetmonostor), where the results of four different treatments have been compared.
The first treatment included no fungicides at all, the second was Áron’s well-tried copper and Polyversum-based conditioning, the third contained a copper replacing plant extract developed within the RELACS project, while in the last one this plant extract has been combined with Áron’s technology as an alternative to copper. In addition to the plant protection treatments, sick leaves have been continuously removed from the plants of the four plots.
Although the data are still being processed, according to the first results it seems that due to the heavier Alternaria infestation more leaves have been removed from plots free of plant protection treatments.
Regarding the results of the trial a professional summary and a video is to be published soon where Áron Pethő and Bence Trugly (leader of the experiment) speak about the outcomes in detail.
‘Replacement of Contentious Inputs in Organic Farming Systems’ (RELACS) will foster development and facilitate adoption of cost-efficient and environmentally safe tools and technologies, to phase out the dependency on and use of contentious inputs in organic farming systems.
