IFOAM Organics Europe is the European umbrella organisation for organic food and farming. They represent organic in European policymaking and advocate for a transformation of food and farming. Their work is based on the principles of organic agriculture – health, ecology, fairness and care. With more than 200 members in 34 European countries, their work spans the entire organic food chain. IFOAM Organics Europe advocates for a fairer, more sustainable and better governed common agriculture and food policy, and proposes to put the principle of ‘public for money for public goods’ at the heart of the CAP.
They helped build a broad and strong coalition by joining forces with civil society organisations, researchers, farmers and companies. Together, they established the European Technology Platform for Organic Food & Farming, TP Organics. TP Organics identifies research priorities and innovation goals for organic and agroecology and promotes these towards policymakers.
As part of the European Green Deal, Farm to Fork Strategy they set up quantitative targets to increase both organic land and consumption of organic products in the EU, and to reduce the use of pesticides and antibiotics. IFOAM Organics Europe calls for an EU target of 25% organic land by 2030 and an EU target of 20% of organic products in public kitchens by 2030.
During this General Assembly they also unveiled their rebranding from #IFOAMEU to IFOAM Organics Europe. Also they have a new website marking this change: www.organicseurope.bio
